Today, this early Rickenbacker Electro Hawaiian guitar looks odd or even ungainly, and it’s easy to see why it was quickly dubbed the Frying Pan model. But that big fat 1 1/2″ wide horseshoe magnet pickup is, even now, considered to be one of the best pickups ever offered to amplify the sound of a guitar. Rarely does an historical instrument hold up for contemporary use, but this one does.
